Keep your third eye peeled, Bristol psych quartet Dreamwave invite you down into the murky depths of your ‘Mindcave’. It looks like we have all the paraphernalia of a psyche rock masterpiece: scuzzy guitars dipped in the Ancient Springs of Reverb, an unreachable rainbow of drawbar organs showing you colours that may or may not actually be there, motorik drums pumping away down in the engine room, propelling us forward waaaay past the speed limit and, finally, a vocal that echoes and bounces around the inside of your head like the empty cavern it is. Lyrics sing of being dragged down and trapped below in the depths of the 'Mindcave', could this be an extended metaphor for spiralling mental health, or did someone just overindulge a little at the weekend I wonder? Either way, as with all great psychedelic experiences, the authorities are waiting in the wings to spoil all the fun. Whilst filming the video for 'Mindcave' “It took 2 weeks, 12 emails and 8 phone calls to acquire the permit we needed to legally film at the cave” explain Dreamwave, “they told us they were going to fine us £1000”.
